Every student at St. Paul Music Academy attends General Music class for 10 weeks throughout the school year. All students participate in the Winter and Spring concerts, either singing or performing on classroom instruments.
In General Music we focus on the basic skills that enable students to successfully participate in one of the many performances and ensembles here at S.P.M.A.`
In Kindergarten, First and Second grades students learn to sing, move, and play simple percussion instruments. Students learn basic note-reading skills and ensemble skills (starting and ending together, keeping a steady beat, for example). All Kindergarten, First and Second graders study violin with their class.
In Third grade, students make the transition to reading notes on the staff, as well as singing simple canons, and playing keyboards, recorders and guitars. Third graders can choose to continue violin or begin keyboard group lessons.
In Fourth-Sixth grade, students continue to improve their note-reading, singing, and instrumental skills. Students can choose to join more intensive performing groups listed below:
The General music and ensemble programs work closely together in order to provide a comprehensive music education for SPMA students.
Let it Snow! Is the theme of our December 15 Winter Concert.
Every SPMA student will be singing or playing an instrument - or both!
Come join in the grand finale, with a rousing chorus of Jingle Bells, featuring the orchestra and all of our students.
Join us at 2:30 p.m. for the afternoon concert, or at 5:30 p.m. for a light supper, our artwork display, and our grand concert at 6:30 p.m. We'll have you merrily on your way home by 7:30.
