Social Worker
Ms._Carson

My name is Heidi Carson and I have beenthe special education social worker atNorth End since 2003.  I received my Bachelor of Social Workdegree fromMoorhead State University, Moorhead, MN in 1993.  I spent the nextseven years working with adults and children with varying mental healthneeds.  I received my my Masters of Social Work from theUniversity of Minnesota in 2002, and became a Licensed IndependentClinical Social Worker in 2005.
Being a school social worker has given me awonderful opportunity to develop real relationships with both childrenand parents.  I am able to work hand in hand with  parentsand students in a positive proactive way to promote school successbehaviors that enhance learning.  During social skills groups someof the areas that we work on may include:  building friendships,self-esteem, problem-solving, conflict resolution, increasingfrustration tolerance, increasing self-control, appropriate expressionof feelings, and self-advocacy skills.  Students learn theseskills through direct teaching, modeling, role-playing, therapeutic andnon-therapeutic games and "circle time".  Being able to talk aboutand practice how to solve problems in a private or small group settingallows students to build the confidence they need to use these skillsin the real world.
I truly believe I have the best job in the world, and it is a pleasure and an honor to serve your children.
