LOCATION

Saint Paul Music Academy is an energetic school located one mile north of the State Capitol Building near Rice Street and Maryland Avenue. Click here for a Google Map of the school's location.

PHILOSOPHY

Saint Paul Music Academy recognizes that:

  • Music is a vital part of the human experience.
  • Music helps us to understand the different communities in our world-from the past, as well as, the present.
  • Learning to play a musical instrument benefits us academically, socially, emotionally and physically.
  • Music enriches our lives.


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

  • Kindergarten through 6th grade have 90 minutes of reading instructions each day.
  • Kindergarten through 6th have 60 minutes of math each day.
  • Each day will include RTI (Response to Intervention) small group instruction time, that includes flexible grouping to make sure all students grasp the learning objectives.
  • All students, Kindergarten through 6th grade, learn how to sing, how to read music, and how to play basic songs on keyboards, guitars, drums and Orff (mallet percussion) instruments.
  • All Kindergarten through 2nd grade students receive weekly violin instrucion.
  • All students in 3rd through 6th grade can choose to participate in Choral, Keyboard, and Orchestra (strings and wind instruments) learning and performing groups.
  • Performing groups regularly perform around the Metro area.
  • The Music Department develops partnerships with many local professional performing groups, so that students can attend several concerts during the school year.
  • The Music Department actively pursues funding for special artist residencies throughout the year: in 2011-2012, 5th & 6th grade students will be studying African drumming through a grant provided by PPG Industries.
